We were in Italy at the weekend for the inaugural World Endurance Mountain Bike Organisation solo 24hr Championships. It was a great race and a feature on it will be taking pride of place in issue 10 of Privateer. To whet your appetite here's a video we shot in between taking photos. As you'll see the course was very tough; admittedly it was the same for everyone and there was a lot of descending but the regular short, steep climbs were impossible to ascend without going into the red, exactly what you don't want when you need to ride for 24hrs. The riders loved though - as sixth place Phil Simcock says in the video, "This course is awesome".
Australian's won both the men's and women's races with Jason English dominant in the Men's race and Jessica Douglas winning the women's race what began as a great tussle with Brit Rickie Cotter who held on to take second place. Second and third in the men's race were Brit's Jason Miles pictured below) and Craig Bowles, with Miles' Team JMC placing three riders in the top 10.
